How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor
In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is situated near the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) which is then sent to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 using a grey wire. The ECU then uses this information to control the boost, fuel, and timig. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer within the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can activate spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. The code won't show without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).
It is a little tricky to test as there are several connector pins, and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. When the sensor is operational, it should be reading about 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you have issues with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. Today, i pulled out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays shut. I inspected the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ I got zero Ohm. So i assume the problem is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start if the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is connected however it has intermittent misfire issues website at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. Also, i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit is showing 2 bar while the actual pressure is 0.0 when i rev the engine.

3. Fuel Pump
